What About Russian Naval Base In Syria

Since 2011, Russia has their two military bases located in Syria: One is Tartus naval base on the Mediterranean coast and another the Khmeimim Air Base near the port city of Latakia.

The Tartus site is mostly critical, which providing Russia with its only direct access to the Mediterranean sea and provide naval base to conduct naval exercises as well as station warships.

As per latest updates, after the news, Assad fleeing to Russia, The Syrian rebels seized the city Damascus on the Sunday which end 54 years of Assad family’s autocratic rule. Russia, which was an ally of the Assad, is now muddle to make a deal with the Syrian rebels for safety of two strategically important military bases.

Kremlin Statement on Russian Naval base In Syria

As per Kremlin, Russia in process of  “establish contact in Syria with those capable of ensuring the security of military bases,”  said spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

On other hand, news from some Russian news agency as  “Syrian rebel fighters have already taken full control of Latakia province where both bases are based.”

“To retreat from Syria, the Russians have deployed a caravan of military transport aircraft, which are loading the remaining troops, weapons, and military equipment,” Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) said in a statement.
