Coco Gauff wins the WTA Finals in Riyadh

Brilliant performance from Gauff!

WTA Final

The 20-year-old Coco Gauff closes out a stunning WTA final 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-2) to win her first WTA Finals. Gauff showed incredible fight in her match against Zheng, coming back from the dead on multiple occasions to win the Title.

The No.3 defeated China’s No.7  Zheng Qinwen in a nail-biting final and clinched her year-ending championship title at the WTA Final since Serena Williams in 2014.

Gauff’s Riyadh win is the longest final at the WTA Finals since first recorded in 2008.  She has been rewarded with $4,805,000—the largest payout at a WTA Tour event till date.

STATEMENT

Gauff:       “First of all, I want to congratulate Qinwen on an amazing match and tournament.

“You’ve had an amazing season, winning the gold medal. Hopefully we can play many more finals together.

“I’d also like to thank my team. It has been a long season but this week has been so much fun.”

 

Zheng:    “I want to say thanks for everyone for coming tonight, and enjoyed this tennis match.”

“And thank you to my team, you try to keep me healthy. I’ve been through a lot of matches this year, but am still out on court fighting. I wish it to be better in the future.”

“I want to say congratulations to the Champion, I think you have a great future.”
