Russia’s Massive Strike on Ukraine’s Energy Grid


Ukraine Russia War – According to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Moscow launched “a massive, combined attack” of around 120 missiles and 90 drones all over Ukraine.

On Sunday overnight, Russia initiated major attack on Ukraine’s power plant and energy infrastructure across the country with large number of missile and drone, Ukrainian authorities reported that at least five people were killed.

Since last August, this was the largest on Ukraine from Russia where Russian missiles and drones targeted Ukrainian cities, Odesa, Dnipro, Rivne, including the capital Kyiv, forcing residents into subway stations and other underground shelters.

 

 

The Russian missile attack triggered blackouts in several areas, including Odesa where water and electricity supplies have been cut and hospitals are operational on power from generators.

Ukrainian energy company DTEK has stated that its thermal power plants were attacked and equipment was “severely damaged by attack”

“The Russia’s target was our energy infrastructure across Ukraine. Unfortunately, some facilities sustained damage from missile and drones,” President Zelensky said Sunday morning.

The Ukrainian air force confirmed Ukrainian defenders downed 144 targets which includes 102 missiles and 42 drones. The Russian aircraft used in the attack included Tu-160 and Tu-95 strategic bombers as well as Su-34, Su-27 and MiG-31 jets, the air force said.
